The Submarine Service did all it could to make their personel as comfortable as possible. One of the interesting things they did was allow us to take our wives for a cruise on NAUTILUS once every year. The feeling was that if the wives had a better ubderstanding of our job on board the boat, maybe they would become more enthusiastic about our making a career of the Navy.
